Local Film Registration

Guidelines for Registration of Local Films

  1. Every film should be registered at the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka before commencing its production. Fee for registration is Rs. 5,000/=.
  2. Relevant Application can be obtained from the Marketing, Production & Research Division of the NFC or downloaded online.

  3. Following documents should be submitted along with the duly filled Application Form:
    1. Certified copy of the Business Registration Certificate. (Sole Proprietorship / Partnership)
    2. If it is a Company, Form 01, Form 20, and the Articles of Association should be submitted in addition to the BRC copy.
    3. Copy of the National Identify card of the Producer/Producers.
    4. A declaration from remaining partners to nominate one of the partners who will be responsible for the transaction with the NFC.
    5. Copies of the Agreements signed with main Actor, Actress, Director, Cinematographer and Editor.
    6. The Synopsis of the film.
    7. An affidavit from the writer for the authenticity of the film script.
  4. Production work should not be commenced without registering the film at the NFC.
  5. Changes of the Ownership of the Company, Location and contact details should be informed to the NFC along with the certified copies of the relevant documents. (If any)
  6. If any changes of the film title, the payment of Rs. 3000/=should be made.
  7. If foreign artistes are in the cast/crew members, following payments should be made to the National Film Development Fund which is attached to the NFC.
    • For a Major Role – Rs. 25,000.00
    • For a Supporting Role – Rs. 10,000.00
  8. The approval from the Public Performance Board is needed for the exhibition of the film.
