- This course has been initiated and is maintained with the objective of establishing a strong Sri Lankan cinematic culture by creating necessary theoretical concepts and a technological foundation.
- Schedule : Saturdays and Sundays from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM at the Jo Abeywickrama Centre (National Film Corporation) Duration: 1 year.
- First Stage - Providing students with a conceptual understanding of film language and aesthetics.
- Second Stage - Focus on direction, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, theory, and critique.
- Arrangements are being made to systematically start several new courses in the future.
- “Cinema for Life" Film Appreciation Programs
To nurture the film culture by creating an audience filled with appreciation, these programs are conducted at the district level targeting schools, universities, vocational institutions, and various private and public organizations.
Lectures, seminars, discussions, and debates related to film appreciation are conducted, with contributions from renowned personalities in the film sector and university professors. These programs showcase local and international films. - Publication of Film Literature
To promote film literacy, a Fourth Quarterly magazine titled "චිත්රපට" is published. Sales are conducted focusing on university bookstores and institutional premises. Articles covering various fields such as Sri Lankan film history, world cinema, film critique, film information, film technology, artists, the film industry, and film education are included. Currently, "චිත්රපට" is the only film magazine available in the Sri Lankan film publication market. - Publication of Books Related to Film Art
To encourage both veteran and emerging film writers, the Sri Lanka National Film Corporation operates a film book publication project. Accordingly, manuscripts related to the subject of film are invited and selected by a committee to be printed and published as institutional publications
Sales of these books are conducted focusing on university bookstores and institutional premises. - Film Discussion Programs
To assess the audience input necessary for a good film culture, discussion programs are organized, and they are conducted under the contributions of a prominent figure in the film industry and a film critic.
These discussions involve industry professionals and all viewers, exchanging views and conducting dialogue on timely relevant topics. - Educational Film Screenings
Targeting audiences in areas lacking cinema halls for film appreciation, educational screenings are conducted. Additionally, during occasions when various schools and universities request films for their enjoyment, high-quality local/international films are screened educationally. - Film Library
To promote film literacy, the Education, Promotion, and Cultural Division operates a film library. - Sales of Film Publications
In order to promote film literacy, publication sales are carried out in conjunction with university publication institutions, institutional sales outlets, and international book fairs.
